June was another busy month in the social media world, with TikTok reporting that more than 30 million people across the UK and over 1.5 million British businesses now use the app - and that the company has increased its UK workforce this year to 3,000 employees. Many of our favourite platforms also released handy updates and new features which will not only benefit individual users, but businesses, influencers and marketing professionals too. Read on to find out which ones you should try!
Instagram Comment Filters for 100k Accounts
Instagram began the month by launching a new tool for large accounts, with users with 100,000 or more followers now being able to sort through the comments on their posts more easily thanks to a range of additional filters:
• Top comments
Sort comments based on how much engagement (likes and replies) each one has received.
• Newest first
Sort comments by most recent.
• Follower count
Sort comments based on the follower count of each user.
Comments can then be filtered by ‘People you follow’, ‘Verified users only’ and ‘Subscribers only’ to further refine your search.
Opportunity Score for Meta Advertisers
Meta is rolling out its recently tested ‘Opportunity Score’ feature to all advertisers, which provides a score from 0-100 points detailing how well your ad campaign is likely to perform, based on how many Ads Manager recommendations you’ve applied. The process also provides immediate feedback on your campaign set-up, including simple suggestions that you can implement to potentially improve ad performance.
According to Meta: “Over time, we’ve heard feedback from advertisers that it can be hard to know where to find our best practices, or to know which best practice is most relevant to their account. With Opportunity Score, our aim is to make it easier for any advertiser or agency to find the right performance recommendation personalised to their account, and implement it without the guesswork.”
Threads DMs
Despite the platform previously stating that it wasn’t planning to introduce DMs, Threads has begun testing out a messaging feature within the app, which will be separate from users’ Instagram DM inbox. Users included in the test have been seeing a new envelope icon in the menu bar at the bottom of the app, which opens up the new DM display when tapped.

Teleprompter Tool for Edits
Instagram is continuing to roll out updates for its new Edits video creation app, with users now having access to a helpful teleprompter tool. This enables you to upload a script for your video which will then be displayed in a rolling format on the front-facing camera as you record, meaning you’ll no longer have to memorise what you want to say, or repeatedly look away from the camera to check your script.

‘Restyle’ for Edits
In addition to the teleprompter tool, Instagram also introduced ‘Restyle’ to Edits, a generative AI feature that allows you to quickly and easily edit your videos using a variety of preset AI prompts to upgrade your outfit, location, style and more. The tool contains more than 50 editing prompts that can be used to transform 10 seconds of your video “for free for a limited time”.
Once you’ve chosen a preset prompt, Meta’s AI will edit your video to match the selected scenario - such as turning your video into a graphic novel so you can see yourself reimagined as a vintage comic book illustration, or creating a dreamy mood with shimmery sparkles, pearlescent blur and soft focus.

Photo Layout on WhatsApp Status
WhatsApp introduced a new tool called ‘Layout’, which enables you to add multiple images to a grid layout on your status (essentially WhatsApp’s version of stories) if you can’t decide which one to post, giving users a fresh way to get creative with their status updates and share more of their favourite photos with friends and family.

New WhatsApp Features
WhatsApp also shared its monthly roundup of new features, which include:
• Animated emojis
When you send certain emojis in a chat (including the red heart, sunglasses face and sparkles), they’ll now animate.
• Animated sticker maker
Take your stickers to the next level by turning your favourite videos into moving stickers.
• Avatar social stickers
Social stickers are shareable with users who have an avatar, and with those you have saved as a contact by default.
• Easier group creation
You can now start a new group without needing to add anyone right away - you can simply kick it off with just the group name and then add others directly, or invite them with a link.
• Caption, react and reply to multiple media
When you send multiple photos and videos at once, you can now add a shared caption for them all, and recipients can react or reply to the entire collection as well as individual items.
• New filters and effects
6 new filters and 6 fun effects have been added for you to use on video calls or when taking a photo.
• Photo polls on Channels
Channel polls are now even more interactive and fun, with channel admins being able to add a photo to each poll option.
• Star your favourite Channel updates
You can now star (pin) your favourite updates to come back to whenever you want.
• Mention groups on Status
You can now mention a group that you’re a member of in your status. All members of the group will be notified in the group chat, and will be able to reshare your status to their own.

Threads Spoiler Tags
Threads has added the ability to add spoiler tags to your posts, which will enable users to hide words in their posts behind a tappable overlay - so, if you want to mention something without letting everyone see (for example, a film or TV show spoiler), you can highlight the relevant text within the post composer, then choose ‘Mark spoiler’ to hide it behind a grey panel.
Alternatively, if you want to share a photo that contains a spoiler, you can also use the spoiler tool to blur it. Viewers can then choose whether they want to reveal the hidden text by tapping on it, or the hidden photo by tapping on the ‘Spoiler’ button.

New Ways to Find WhatsApp Channels & Businesses
WhatsApp rolled out some new features for its Updates tab, in order to to help admins, organisations and businesses grow on the platform:
• Channel subscriptions
You can now support your favourite WhatsApp Channels by subscribing to receive exclusive updates for a monthly fee.
• Promoted Channels
When you’re looking through the directory, WhatsApp will now show you new Channels that might be interesting to you, giving Channel admins a new way to increase their Channel’s visibility.
• Ads in Status
When tapping through your friends’ status (story) updates, you’ll now see ads from businesses in between them, and will have the option to easily start a conversation with them about the products or services they’re promoting.
WhatsApp reassured users that these new features will only appear on the Updates tab, away from your personal conversations - so if you only use the app to chat with friends and family, there won’t be any change to your experience at all.

Facebook Passkey Access
Meta is launching passkeys on Facebook for mobile devices - a new way to verify your identity and log in to your account that’s easier and more secure than traditional passwords. Users can now sign in with the same fingerprint, face ID or PIN they already use on their phones, and the same passkey you set up for Facebook will also work on Messenger once the tool is fully rolled out.
Word of the week: Passkey.

More Edits Updates
Instagram introduced even more new features to its separate Edits app at the end of the month:
• Keyframes
You can now pinpoint exact moments within your videos with keyframes, allowing you to animate the position, scale and rotation of your clips more precisely than before.
• Upgraded Ideas tab
The Ideas tab within the app has been upgraded to display more inspiration for your videos, and now includes the ability to leave sticky notes on audio clips you want to create with in the future.
• New text effects
Choose from over 30 text effects and animations.
• Voice enhance
You can now apply voice enhancements to your voiceovers, which will help to remove unwanted background noise.

WhatsApp AI Conversation Summaries
WhatsApp has launched Message Summaries, a new option that uses Meta AI to quickly summarise unread messages in a group chat, so you can get an idea of what you’ve missed before reading the full details. To reassure users about the privacy of their chats, the platform confirmed that neither WhatsApp or Meta can see your messages or the private summaries, and nobody else in the chat can see your summarised messages either.

Video Covers for LinkedIn Articles and Newsletters
Previously, LinkedIn users could only add static images to the header of their articles and newsletters - but thanks to a recent update, videos can now be uploaded to the header, helping creators further engage prospective readers and drive more interest in their content on the platform.
When viewers come across a newsletter or article in their feed that contains a header video, a playable version of the video will appear, and video thumbnails will also be displayed in the emails sent to newsletter subscribers. When clicked, the thumbnail will redirect subscribers to the full article page.
